Let me know if this isn’t the appropriate place to ask this.

Got this Mugo pine and a couple other trees in my first attempt to start completely fresh and trim on my own. The trunk has a really nice look that I was pleasantly surprised to discover. Do y’all think I did too much? Enough? Would you do anything else or just let it grow and get comfortable for now?

Looks great for an initial prune, I would now wire all the remaining branches.

Aim to create lots of flat pads that are equally spaced and show off the ‘trunk line’

    Good luck! 🙂

Just dont forget that trees are NOT two dimensional. Its hard to tell from the pictures, but it seems you have removed all front and back facing branches.

Yeah you wanna establish a front but the tree still gotta be pleasant to look from all sides.

Looks great! You will want to use wire to position the branches and you are going to want to address the various spots with several branches coming from the same spot (I would probably wait till next spring. Don’t want to insult the tree too much or too often). If you have 3 or more branches growing from the same spot you will get inverse taper. That can happen at the trunk or when a branch has several secondary branches.

You’re doing great work. Keep at it and have fun!
