WAUSAU − A new series of gardening classes will soon be available for local residents looking to improve their green thumbs, according to a community announcement.

Marathon County Public Library’s Wausau headquarters is partnering with Extension Marathon County to offer a four-week series of beginner-friendly gardening programs. The first session will focus on planning a successful vegetable garden and will be held April 9, with two time slots available: 1:30-3 p.m. and 5:30-7 p.m. in the conference room at the Wausau library, 300 First St.

The class will cover topics such as choosing crops, creating a garden plan and scheduling to get the best harvests. Extension Marathon County will also explain how crop rotation and succession planting can reduce pests, improve soil health and keep gardens productive throughout the season.

The event is free and open to adults, but registration is required. Participants can register for one or multiple sessions in the series, and it is not mandatory to attend all classes.
