Tree cutting guy is giving me a great deal to remove some trees, but he insist that this oak is going to cause much more problems to keep than to remove.
I do love the tree and the shade it provides. I can also deal with raking huge piles of leaves from it every year.
I don't have many up close photos (at the moment), but he mentioned the split being dangerous and that it was diseased and dying anyways.
Having second thoughts about telling him to remove it because of what I've read about people having no issues, just pruning it. How old trees are beautiful and add curb appeal. How the root system dying can cause water damage/pooling and settling issues.
I have asked a few local companies to inspect the tree and didn't receive an answer yet, but tree cutting guy needs to know by tomorrow morning.
Just bought the house last year and don't want $10-30k problems down the road. Also don't want to pay way more to cool the house.
Hopefully I can get some advice! Thanks

Tree guy being a tree guy. FYI they’re salesmen, not arborists. They say cut it down and offer “great deals” no matter what. And if you go with the trim option they often deliberately screw it up to make it higher maintenance or necessary to remove completely a few years down the line. We see posts almost daily here.
Go to http://www.treesaregood.org/findanarborist, you’ll have a better chance of getting more reliable people, call 2-3 of them
It’s always good to provide a picture of what it looks like between the tree and the house
Needs more detail. What kind of tree, closer photo of the base especially where the two trees connect, and between the tree and house.
I’m not an arborist, yet, but I work with a lot of them and represent the company I work for.
These high pressure “we need an answer by tomorrow morning” are dickheads using the same tactics Indian phone scammers use trick people out of their money.
Their price won’t go up. They just want to close Q1 with a big win. Talk to an arborist, hell, talk to a reputable company even. If all they do is cut trees, that’s only real option they are going to leave you with.
Nice house and tree. Where is this?
