I’ve also tried this but opening them consistently turned out to be very cumbersome and also all the dried ones had lots of mold in there as well.
Does anyone have a good technique on how to do this at home?

We do this. It is kind of cathartic, sit with a bucket between my ankles listen to the birds & shuck coffee pods. It means we get the grounds for the compost & we can then take the empty pods to the tip.

I toss my used Costco k cups and nespresso pods into a container next to the machines. When it builds up, I do a session of emptying using a table knife to open up each one (not a really sharp knife)

I’ve had a Nespresso maker and I’ve had a proper (do all the work yourself) espresso setup. There is no question that Nespresso is an inferior espresso to one you brew yourself fresh. But you cannot beat the speed and cleanup of a Nespresso machine. Because of this, I have relegated Nespresso machines to cities only where you can physically go and drop off the used pods (they have special machines that strip the aluminum and coffee out). If you are not sending your pods back, then it is entirely too wasteful to recommend.
As for the op. You should collect these and send them back if you cannot drop them off at a designated recycling spot for Nespresso.

I do the same thing. I also have cambio all metal pods which are very easy to get the grounds out of and reusable pods which, as a lot of other mentioned, are much cheaper in the long run and easy to clean. But we have pods and these nespresso pods which would just be tossed anyway. I have 97% switched over to a french press or reusable k cup, my partner is slowly switching over. So if the pods are going to be used, I’m going to salvage the grounds! lol

I’m switching away from the disposable cups in my area, I’m switching to a reusable filter-holder + compostable paper single-use coffee filters. Just finished the last plastic k-cup a few minutes ago
