1 year of growth. Highly considering grass removal for move native, keeping gate access though, thoughts…

  1. I support this.

It’ll look way more interesting and create biodiversity if you choose a variation of local natives

Theres honestly no point in having a lawn in WA unless you actively use it. I’d rip it all out, do some pathways and be done with it.

Hell yeah! Toss the turf, native garden all the way!

What is the silver ground cover? Looks nice

You can always keep a grass pathway, or pavers/stepping stones with grass around. Bit of a pain to mow such a small area and there are plenty of low /flat grass substitutes you can use. But in the short term at least you have some greenery along the path line

That square changed shape and colour… what are you watering it?

You could put a feature garden in the middle and do pathways around either grass or pavers. This is what I have done. I’m keeping the grass pathways till I can afford pavers.

Whatever you decide to do, do not put down weedmat covered in loose gravel and stepping stones. It will only look good on the first day you put it down, weeds will quickly take hold in any blown-in pocket of dirt, gravel will stick in your shoes and damage your timber floors and you might twist your ankle on shifting gravel.

Most here suggest ground covers and a stepping stone path. I prefer if possible a mortared brick or paved path (more expensive) for the main walkways -from the street and driveway, to the door and gate. The rest can be large mulched beds. You could still put a few stepping stones through the beds for easier access for plant maintenance (pruning, fertilising etc). Lower maintenance in the long run – maybe just a pressure wash once a year – and it will always pretty much look great and feel solid (unless you site a large tree right next to it).

Eremophila swallows other plants whole if you let it, as you’re seeing
