I'd like to say this is my first time raising pigs. I dont know if I'm doing too much or not, my husband just says " they're pigs" 🤣….I have 3, 6 week old Juliana piglets. Now that they have been going outside on nice days they are rutting around ( as pigs do) & when I give them fresh water the first thing they do is drop their whole body in the water container and roll around in it..

I'm hoping if I get them a (cheap) pool it would reduce how much water they waste everyday. my questions are :

could this be hazardous for them?

do you think they would break it easily?

& if I do buy one, should I dig a spot out for the pool to sit into the ground?

any advice regarding other ideas to satisfy the pigs but also help reserve water would also be appreciated. DIY everything & anything for pigs are also very much welcome. thank you in advance!

I did for my french bulldog. Kinda of the same thing. 😂

Yep don’t work! Bent and creased them and wouldn’t hold water. Was funny to watch the first time but they are not very durable.

We tried one with our Pyrenees. It only lasted about a day.

We put one out for the wildlife and raccoons have a blast in them.

I use them for ducks and the ducks beat them up

Dig a pig sized hole and fill it with water. My pig cant get over the lip of the kiddie pool and crushes the sides down. Then he lays in the stream he formed for about 10 seconds. Lol

I use this for my ducks, but my pigs would trash it in minutes

  8. My dog breaks those, and he’s old, so he just gets in and out. But they never last a full summer before they’re torn up and leaking. I don’t expect they’ll stand up to pigs

Don’t waste your money. I use those plastic turtle sandboxes. You can pick them up used for cheap

I mean you could probably just try to catch them with some food, not sure why you think you could trick them with a pool /s

Parent of a toddler here, your pig ain’t got nothing on a little girl, should be just fine!

Seriously though, try something a bit more sturdy, I forsee a wasted $8

As others have said, this won’t work if your just set it out there. But if you dig a hole and use one of these as a liner that will work.

Only with my pigs that go quack quack quack…
    🤣
It may work for some time if you dig it into the ground… but then cleaning it will be a hassle

I really want to try a small KNF Piggery because it keeps the smell to a minimum but I guess most would just consider it a deep manure system but it is designed for keeping pigs on a small plot of land.

The one piece molded plastic sandbox type things are much sturdier and will last you longer. I tried those pools when my kunekunes were little but they squashed them fast! Tried doubling up but that barely slowed them. The lobster/turtle sandboxes/water play containers have held up several years.

Search Step 2 Crabbie Sandbox or Little Tykes Turtle Sandbox

I know they don’t withstand my Rottweiler and his enthusiasm for standing water.

No..might last a few hours at best. Then poses a risk for them chewing on the plastic and because it is so thin easily could cause harm if they swallowed it.

We have dug holes and used a thick pond liner. Works great and pond liner can be moved and reused when you move ponds. There are also heavy duty farm water ponds that are meant for the job.

They make metal ones for fish ponds and such for suburban houses. Some about that size and some a few times bigger. Get one of those and it will last.

  19. I filled one with ice and but down a plastic sheet then marinated a pig in one for pig roasts. I’m not sure that is what you meant though.
