Would it prefer to climb? Are there disadvantages to letting it hang like so? I love this plant; I got it when it was in a little four inch pot. Any advice, explanations, and/or recommendations are appreciated. Thanks!

Nope! It can be perfectly happy trailing, just a matter of aesthetics

A carnosa would prefer to climb, but can go either way. With the growth tip pointing down, the hormones can’t move up the vine and that will stimulate more leaf growth. With the growth tip pointing up, hormones move down the vine and stimulates more vine growth.

I have my carnosa on a trellis, but a family member has theirs partially trellised while some vines hang. Both plants looks great, and yours looks great too!

No hoya technically “need” a trellis. I think your plant baby is growing just fine lol.
