NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Hundreds of children descended on City Park Sunday (March 29) for the annual Egg Scramble.
This year’s event expanded beyond the Carousel Gardens to include the Botanical Garden, with more space for families to explore.
The temperatures were cool and flowers were in bloom, but spring still isn’t for everyone.

Jade Kuhn chose a unique theme for her boys’ matching T-shirts, centered around the family’s favorite Easter tradition.
“We get a bunch of mugs and put the dye in them and then take the eggs and put them in there,” her son said.
“We kind of do a contest. Like, who has the best egg? And we’ll put our best egg out for the Easter Bunny,” Kuhn said.
Isabela Craig is an egg scramble veteran, now on her third year of hunting.
“It’s really fun, because you get to see the actual Easter Bunny,” Craig said. “And there’s a lot of eggs. There’s like probably over 300 eggs.”
The event actually provided 38,000 eggs, its largest batch to date. Each egg was filled with a prize.
“There’s a lot of candy and stuff,” Craig said.
New attractions
Before the egg hunt began, families explored the gardens with balloon artists, face painting and a new petting zoo.
“The bunnies are really cute, and there is a goat standing on a turtle,” noted Madeleine Yelton.

The field was cleared of eggs within five minutes, and each child methodically tallied the hauls in their baskets.
Some children won one of 300 special prizes, which included season tickets to the Carousel Gardens Amusement Park or vouchers for fast-food restaurants’ kids meals.
