My house had a large pond in the backyard. There is fish living in it (grass carp and sunfish) I purchased a pond fountain 2 weeks ago and run it 8 hours Saturday/Sunday but only around 4 hours M-F. However the algae is still growing.
Do I need to run the fountain all day every day or what else can I do to get rid of the algae or at least keep it from growing?

algaecide
Algea grow because of excess nutrients. So your goal has to be to remove nutrients from your pond.
I would not use algecide. I would put in more plants, that take nutrients out of it. I guess you will need some plants at the side, so the grasscarp don’t eat them. If you want plant suggestions I can give you a few if you give me your climate.
Algea are going to disappear when nutrients in the water get less. An algecide is only a temporary solution and not good for the fish. Like I have multiple trout and carp ponds, and always used plants to improve water quality.
