I’m filling our Birdie’s Garden Beds, and these take a LOT of expensive garden mix! I’m reducing the amount I need by filling the bottom with sticks and branches.

Rooted in Suburbia is all about building a productive and enjoyable garden right in a typical backyard. After years of successful growing in Southern California, we’ve traded that long growing season for life in Northern Alabama (Zone 8a/7b), and we’re learning how to adapt everything we thought we knew. From raised beds and fruit trees to greenhouse plans and indoor growing systems, we’re documenting every step as we build this space from the ground up.

You’ll see real progress, real challenges, and hopefully a lot of success along the way. Whether it’s experimenting with new methods, pushing the limits of what can grow here, or just figuring things out as we go, this channel is about learning, improving, and growing together.

If you’re interested in gardening, homesteading, or just making the most out of your space, consider subscribing and following along as we continue to develop our garden and share what works (and what doesn’t).
