I saw this cool-looking plant at Walmart and bought it impulsively, not knowing anything about it. I looked it up after I got home and was very surprised to learn that it's kind of demanding, not the type of plant I thought Walmart would sell. I used to kill any plant that entered my house and it's only been in the past couple of years that I've finally gotten the hang of keeping houseplants alive, so I'm a bit intimidated by this one! I read some ideas about taking care of it from this subreddit. So far, I've repotted it in a pot that is slightly bigger than the one it came in, put a plant tray underneath the lid saucer and put water in that for humidity, placed it near my bright plant light but off to the side and not directly underneath, and I've been keeping the soil moist with water from my fish tank. It's only been 11 days, so too early to tell what will happen. I see a couple of new leaves sprouting (the crunchy ones were already on the plant when I bought it), so I am taking that as a positive sign 🤞

Don’t panic, you got this! The key is consistent moisture with these guys. They also will do well in morning sun in an east facing window if you can do that. Acclimate it to it’s new situation before putting it in a window though. You don’t want to scorch it. Keep the leaves clean by misting or rinsing it off with a shower attachment. They like humidity and you can get inexpensive humidifiers online that can help with that, especially in winter. This is a good time of year to get it because it will have all of spring to get used to its new environment. Enjoy!
I have so many Calatheas and I don’t know why people call them dramatic or difficult. I water every 10 days and do nothing special, I don’t even have a humidifier. You can trim those crispy ends with basic scissors if you want.
This is one of the easier ones, you will probably be fine.
