It’s that time of year – the “what’s wrong with my baby tomatoes” posts. This is my third or fourth year growing tomatoes from seed and I’ve had great success in prior years. Unfortunately, I have not been so lucky this year!

I planted these guys 19 days ago. Germination went as normal….and then they’ve pretty much stalled and/or started browning and dying. Same seed starting soil as last year. Same grow lights and routine. Same location in my home. I know some are getting a bit leggy, but they appeared to be getting brown from the lights so I moved them slightly up.

Any idea what could be going wrong? I thought maybe I had over-watered them, but they don’t appear to be recovering after pulling back on water for a few days.

Thanks so much!

Have you tested how much light your seedlings were getting? I don’t know for Apple but Android has a couple of decent PAR apps. I like the interface of Photone but PPFD Meter app might also appeal. Photone does have a useful table of suggested readings and length of day.

I no longer have my Apogee PAR meter so I can’t validate how accurate my phone’s Ambient Light sensor is for LED lighting but at least it’s decent indicator I feel.

I’m gonna guess either overwatering or you have too much humidity in the grow chamber so they are damping off.

Can be pythium, disinfect the seeds again, change the soil
