In this video, I share how to transplant tomatoes so they explode with growth and productivity! Transplanting technique matters, and if you do it wrong, plants can stall, struggle to grow or even die. Transplant tomatoes like this for more fruit and faster growth. You won’t believe the difference!

  2. Up here in 7b and have learned so much from your videos. Could you please tell me where you purchased the square rolling pots with trellis / cages? Thanks

  3. Problem is, you spend more on fertilizer then what its worth, get a storm or bad weather you lose everything 😐. Another down side is you attract more bugs, then you have bug issues 🤗 But wait theres more .. bug repellent more $ 😵‍💫 . just go to the store and buy it . no excess expenditure , no maintenance required , no worries 🤗 its nothing more than an expensive hobby 🤭

  4. Thanks for showing a container planting too. Nice to know we don’t have to entirely replace expensive potting soil each season. I will follow your example!

  5. I am watching two gardeners. The Millennial Gardener and The Gardener Channel with James Prigioni. You both have different approach for growing your vegetables. Different soil, different fertilizers, different pruning technique. I am in KY, zone 7A. I remember when you visited James in NJ. And you both have very good result. Can you comment – why? Thanks a lot.

  6. I hope you didn't plant yet bro, I'm near you in southport and Saturday night it'll be cold, put those tomato in shock

  7. Some fertilizers already have crab shells, so if you use them fairly frequently you should be able to keep nematodes down.

  8. Do you take out all the roots when you out pull your tomatoes and plants out at the end of season? And do you plant tomatoes in the same spot every year?

  9. Perfect for my upcoming tomato planting for this year. I’m going to plant both in ground and also in the pot. Very informative. Looks like Mr. Dale found the best spot for his hideout!! He’s so cute with his blue outfit. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

  10. I don’t bury mine. I haven’t seen a significant difference and I think it stresses it unnecessarily. After doing soil testing, I won’t be adding any extra bone meal this year. My phosphorus is extremely high. Especially, in my inground beds. They are clay and tie up phosphorus and calcium easily.

  11. From the research I have done about phosphorus and after seeing such high levels in my garden. I am changing my fertilizer approach this year. According to what I have read phosphorus is essential for blooming and root development but it is relatively immobile and accumulates over time, potentially leading to nutrient imbalances that interfere with the uptake of iron and zinc

  12. Do you think you would need to harden off tomato plants if you use shade cloths &/or green house plastic(with UV protection)?

  13. Seems like a lot of fertiluIzer. Cam i just use. Bone meal? Am planning to put 2 tomato plants in 2 grow bagsI ordered online!

  14. I think it was epic gardening that actually did a test to see which way was the best for planting tomatoes and found that just standard planting gave the best results. That their plant that was deeply buried like he does had the lowest yield because putting on all those extra roots slowed down its initial growth. So i wouldn’t recommend doing that. Just plant them normally. Also if you live in a colder climate its recommended to not prune your indeterminate nearly as much because of your shorter growing season. Got that from the youtuber gardening in canada. Her stuff is great if you live in zone 6 or lower.

  15. Hey if you're in Wilmington NC— a pretty Southern US place; if you want to be a responsible garden coach you need to give people the temps/months they can plant out in their climate zone!! I'm in MD and we won't be planting tomatoes outside until May…..and we're 100% mid-US…there are many other zones colder than ours. Not giving any temperature specs in this video is pretty irresponsible for the new gardeners who don't know better….

  16. I am also in the Wilmington area, when do you get your compost, I would like to support that business, since they are delivering quality compost.

  17. Hey! I’m in CHS and thought I started my tomatoes too soon but I think I’m good! I always wondered why they create more roots above and glad to know I can plant them below!

  18. That's not correct what you said about tomato roots. Tomatoes form adventitious roots all along the stem that is covered by soil. Not just at the nodes.

  19. Love the tomato container! Do you not need to worry about rotating crops when using containers/bags? I think you said you used the same one for this type of tomato last year.

  20. Thank you for another great video! I purchased two of these planters after watching your video last summer on how to extend your tomato growing season. Today I was just thinking about maybe getting a third to use for a cucumber!!! Too funny lol I was wondering, what variety are you choosing to plant in yours? I was thinking it might need to be something that does not need pollination? I live in Michigan and just up potted my bobcat based on your recommendation and a Bush Early Girl for my early tomato planters. Cannot wait for some real spring weather.

  21. Tells you to wait a day for tomato plants to heal after pruning, to avoid disease. Fails to disinfectant pruners when going between multiple plants. 😂

  22. Hey man I have a question for you about pawpaws and I want to ask you because yiu are a logical person and I feel that you will give me a logical response. I found this study completed in 2022 and was done by the PMC. The study showed that consuming Annonaceae fruits, essentially will cause/worsen atypical parkinsons disease. I think the study was done on people in the caribbean who mostly eat soursop. Here is the link to the study pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10092620/#:~:text=In%20particular%2C%20converging%20in%20vitro,2

  23. Anthony, have you ever tried that trick where you lay your tomato plants down to increase your root growth. Up in Canada, it is still at freezing point. I got my heating mats out today (new addition this year) and pre-filled the pots for planting tomatoes, peppers and squash seeds tomorrow. I will try your succession method for squash this year. I very much value you tuition.

  24. Dale is clearly hyped for the new growing season! 😂Well, I know I am at least; up here in NE PA, not far from your old stomping grounds (I reckon SE PA/NJ). It's been a NASTY winter, so spring is especially welcome, and I got all my tomatoes and peppers itching to get out there in their "forever homes" Great vid as always.

  25. I have the best start to my Charleston SC garden thanks to your advice and example.

FYI – I use a post-hole digger to create a uniform round planting hole that doesn't disturb the soil any more than necessary. In my raised beds, I can create a hole to the depth I want based on the size transplant, 4-8". Backfill with your fertilizer recommendations and water in. Has worked perfectly.

  26. I would suggest that you think about buying a Brix refractor. And use a middle leaf/ s to get the sugar content, no stem. Get the reading trying to be above 9. If it’s less try a tablespoon of molasses per gallon and a sea mineral mix to supply micro nutrients

  27. I'm buying those containers with your links right now! How long have you found the self watering system works before you have to add more water? We go on vacation sometimes so I'm curious what to expect

  28. You use way too much fertilizer- try improving your soil and you’ll find they grow just fine
