MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) – Marietta farmer Annie Warmke said she is gearing up for the spring season.
Warmke said she hopes more women will get involved in agriculture.
Two years ago, she started a small forest garden in her backyard.
She said she plans to help neighbors start forest gardens of their own.
Warmke said she has years of experience in agriculture.
Before moving to Marietta, she owned 38 acres in Muskingum County known as Blue Rock Station.
Warmke said her forest garden has been doing well.
She said she plans to plant more this spring.
“The fruit trees are doing great,” Warmke said. “I only killed two. ”the bushes are doing great. The medicinal herbs are doing great. The vegetables and fruit that we are producing. I just made some soup with some of the tomatoes from last summer. We’re getting ready to plant another 15 fruit trees between the two properties that we own now. They’re next door to each other. So, we can demonstrate how you can manage fruit trees on a small lot.”
Warmke said she has taught classes and hosted interns at Blue Rock Station.
She said much of her work has focused on learning and sharing what she knows.
