April workshops bring naturescaping, seed mastery, edible landscapes

Are you interested in digging into the upcoming growing season but are unsure where to start? Then sign up for a series of free, hands-on gardening workshops in Wood Village.
The workshops are hosted by the city in partnership with Outgrowing Hunger, East Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District, and OSU Master Gardener Program. The outings are perfect for beginners and those with seasoned green thumbs.
You will learn how to grow healthy, resilient gardens; use sustainable gardening practices; and connect with local experts and neighbors.
Three events are planned in April:
Intro to Naturescaping
When: 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 15
Where: Rockwood Community Development Corporation, 18445 E. Burnside St.
What: Learn how to create healthy, low-maintenance landscapes that mimic nature. Tips on preventing pollution, supporting wildlife, conserving water, and creating a beautiful outdoor space. Workshop in English and Spanish.

Seed to Supper
When: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 18
Where: Nadaka Nature Park, 17615 N.E. Glisan St.
What: A monthly workshop, so there are future opportunities to participate. Course highlights budget friendly ways to plant, grow and care for produce in small and medium sized gardens. Learn how to have your garden thrive with best practices and expert tips.

Creating an Edible Landscape
When: 6-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 22
Where: Rockwood Community Development Corporation, 18445 E. Burnside St.
What: Insight into adding edible plants to your landscape. From veggies, and herbs to perennial berries and fruit trees. Tips on design, building fertile soil, and how to conserve water. Multnomah County Health Department offering free lead screening that same day (bring in soil, toys, spices, pottery for a check). In English and Spanish.
