My great grandmother used to cut an onion in half and rub it over the area that came into contact with stinging nettle. And it would calm the pain almost immediately. It was all over the place on the property I grew up on.

I had a bad interaction with these in the 80s as a kid. Emergency department recommended getting sugary chewing gum, more sugar the better. Chew it up, stretch it out and lay it on skin over the nettle to pull it out painlessly. Eight year old me loved this treatment plan.
