A gardener has inherited one of Britain’s largest vintage lawnmower collections after his father’s death, giving him “plenty of choice” for his first lawn cut of the year. Jonathon Hardwick, 49, from Filey, North Yorkshire, took over the 500-piece collection built up over 35 years by his father Stan, a former golf club greenskeeper who died in 2024. The collection includes rare mowers dating back to the 19th century, stored across sheds, a garage and a conservatory, with some believed to be unique. Jonathon says he plans to preserve and expand the collection, continuing his father’s legacy while maintaining a piece of British gardening history.
