MOUNT VERNON — If you are passionate about learning, growing, and teaching others about gardening, consider becoming an Extension Master Gardener.
Knox County Master Gardeners invite local residents to turn their passion for plants into community service. This specialized program provides science-based horticultural training from university experts in exchange for volunteer hours that support local environmental stewardship and community education projects.
To become a Master Gardener Volunteer, individuals will donate 50 hours of their time to service. Once you have completed these hours, you will be an official Extension Master Gardener.
In addition to learning about various topics, participants will practice their skills through volunteer opportunities. They will have exposure to information from current research and the success of specialists at The Ohio State University.
Master Gardeners provide resources and events to educate the community about the importance of horticulture and the issues surrounding it. Events include workshops.
Master Gardeners explore their deep horticultural roots to learn about the land on which we live, and the importance of preserving its beauty. They do not take without giving back, whether it’s from the Earth or from the community. They strive to preserve the natural beauty of the community while sharing their love of gardening.
Anyone interested in becoming a Knox County Master Gardener is encouraged to contact Extension Educator Sabrina Schirtzinger at Schirtzinger.55@osu.edu or by calling the office at:740-397-0401. Applications can be found at knox.osu.edu.
