I'm in southern Illinois and just got the keys to my [town]home. The previous tenants (from the smell of it) had a dog or two. The yard is extremely bare and the housing office said they already spread seed and layed down hay (or straw?), but I didn't ask what date this was done. As I write this, it's currently raining, this area is prone to flooding and I also noticed some cracks in the soil. The picture's timestamp was about 1030 am sun exposure and it's very shaded most of the day.
I read through the beginners guide but am unsure of what step I should jump in on. This is military housing and I was told I have free reign, and am responsible, of only the the lawn care within my fenced in yard and some flower beds in the front. I can go to the housing office for more seed as needed. They also noted this in my pre inspection paperwork.
What questions, if any, I should ask the housing office before I start? Any recommendations are welcome, I'm willing to put in the time and effort as I'll be here the next 2+ years.
