For 77 years, The Chronicle Garden Competition has elevated the Toowoomba region’s most vibrant private gardens to the wider community.

In 2026, the competition returns to allow green thumbs of all experience levels to cultivate their yards with decadent garden displays, win exciting prizes, and share their passion with visitors during the region’s iconic Carnival of Flowers in spring.

With a streamlined list of categories in 2026, The Chronicle Garden Competition will once again be a favourite of visitors to the region during the Carnival from Friday September 18, giving tourists and locals alike an opportunity to see behind the garden gate and into their backyard.

“It’s because of the private gardeners that Toowoomba has become known all over as the Garden City,” Chronicle editor Jordan Philp said.

“Our region’s gardeners are truly impressive artists with the way they curate their properties with nature, patterns and an eye for detail.

“Each year we are blown away by the entries in the Chronicle Garden Competition, and not just from the bigger, more established gardens – there are categories in the competition for gardens and displays of all shapes and sizes.”

“It’s been impressive to see what beginner and younger gardeners are doing with their spaces too.”

The judging of all selected classes will take place in early September.
