After chasing traditional success and achievement for years, I finally asked myself: What if I don’t want this life at all? Join me on our 38-acre homestead along the Kentucky River, where we’re restoring an 1840s log cabin, and where I’m unlearning the hustle mindset I spent decades perfecting.
In this episode, I share why I left my promising career behind, and the progress behind our revamped permaculture food forest. My husband, Rocky, and I share what makes this life fulfilling… and why we have no choice but to ‘die trying.’
Thanks for watching. Let’s slow down, together. 🙂

Appears when you left that behind, that you had done so with a little bit of scratch left 🎉😂❤ but I absolutely love your story. You make the decision so very tempting 😊
Because it’s possibly the most serene and peaceful life ever.
Amo <3
I just found yall..
Love this!!!
Nooice! 😎 STOC
Always nice to find another brother or sister in arms finding solace in homesteading.
“The joy of what could be just became stronger than my fear of what could be” – this right here!
Confucius said it best. "We all live two lives, the second life begins when you realize it's only one life your living.
Life? You both reached it's success and reward. PEACE
Its amazing how HELD you feel in nature. It's like a warm hug. I just turned 39. I wanted this life when I was 24. I stayed in the city instead and in my mid 30's i struggled staying there. I moved to Oregon and the goal is to homestead and have some rescued animals… and start a small community.. like it used to be 🙂 The pull to do what I wanted when I was 24 never went away. I just got caught up on getting my degree + making $$ int he city. I have no regrets but I'm ready to slow down even more, and live this life…. Ty for sharing!
Brother in arms doing the homesteading. KY as well. Keep it up.
I figured out vegetables was causing my psoriasis, enlarged prostate and some other issues. I can tolerate some white rice and sweet potatoes occasionally. Havent had any other kind of vegetables in 6 years. Problems are gone. Good luck on the homestead.
Not sure how I found y’all but I needed this today.
I’m also in Eastern Kentucky on a few dozen acres.
I moved here from up north a few years ago and before watching this video I’d been feeling like the works been endless. Thanks for the reminder to go at natures pace.
This video is incredible! Feels like watching a really good documentary – love seeing glimpses into your life. Inspiring to say the least
A beautiful thing when two people in hard labor together;)
Love this video Sophie and Rocky! ❤ you’re more connected to nature and nature is more connected to you.
Very nice, healthy way to live..
What a beautiful, well-matched couple you are. ❤
Thanks for sharing this.
Beautiful story telling!
😍
Burn all poison oak , ivy , sumac and Devil’s-club. Use Tecnu! Even on your tools. Don’t hug
Cats or goats , they walk through poison oak.
I bought a wrecked up house on in the country about 12 years. As I get the bugs out. My life just keeps getting better.
I’m retiring soon and I want to escape the crowds and live a simple rural life. I don’t have the energy to homestead but I was inspired by your story. Thanks.
Our ground is still covered with snow, with six more inches expected tomorrow.
Seems pretty awesome
A very inviting video and homestead! May you both enjoy success at every level you desire!
CONGRATS TO YOU BOTH MUCH LOVE FROM NORTH CAROLINA
You all spread such a beautiful message of trusting your gut and making the leap into a fulfilling lifestyle…
Also, where is the world did you get those amazing camo overalls?!?
Wonderful work, you two. ….btw, you said you were planting 'wildflowers.' I hope you are planting 'native' wild-flowers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trJKZDEfvrc
I would like to extend to you an invitation to the Military Order of Foreign Wars (Texas) if you are not yet a Member. Also, if you are, I would like to challenge you and your family, friends and Military 🎖️🪖 Veteran Community the same. I have land in Texas, AZ, NM, and California. Most are at the Gateway to National Park Lands and Forests. Veterans and others deserve to understand the deep link humankind has with the Earth 🌎🌍. We are after all created from dirt!
I appreciate you and your husband's videos. Please, feel free to come learn all the things that my Grandparents taught me on Thistle Street.
Awesome 👍😎❤
The moment you said when you looked at your peacocks 🦚 you felt like you were looking into the eyes of god, im not religious AT all but nature is god to me…..i lost it…balling. I said out loud " you are looking into the eyes of god!" 😭😭😭 You just got another follower lady❤.
Love this video. You guys are doing exactly what I love. I love animals and nature.
Wow, ok, getting your channel recommendation is a bit more than serendipitous! I, too work for Kroger, 3 years now, doing their delivery, also in Kentucky and not even kidding, literally just last night got a Zillow recommendation of a small acreage lot along the KY River (Owenton) ! Then this is in my algorithm this morning🫠
God is def with the Peacock 🦚 and indeed, with us all, always !
PLEASE more videos. About to embark on homesteading alone. Also, it helps to buy a paint suit that zips up and cover shoes with plastic bags to avoid poison oak/ivy. Love your videos. Thank you. God bless.
The log house, red barn along the Kentucky River and NF proximity is a slice of heaven. Long to visit your location.
