The oldest botanical garden in London has been named among the most beautiful in the world.
In a list from Homes and Gardens, the publication highlighted the gardens that are so beautiful they will “stop you in your tracks and take your breath away”.
The list explores what makes the gardens so special, and unearths how they can improve well-being and “extend our love of the natural world and all it has to offer.”

London’s oldest botanic garden is among the most beautiful in the world
For London, the Chelsea Physic Garden was named among the most beautiful in the world.
Explaining why the gardens featured in the list, Homes and Gardens shares: “London’s oldest botanic garden, the Chelsea Physic Garden, was founded in 1673 and is currently home to more than 4,500 medicinal, edible and useful plants.
“Encompassing 4 acres on the edge of the River Thames in central London, the Chelsea Physic Garden is a beautiful botanic garden and a place of learning and wellbeing in an urban environment.
“Demonstrating the importance of plants today, you will find Victorian glasshouses, meandering paths through stunning borders and precisely labelled specimens.”
The Chelsea Physic Garden first opened in 1673 by the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries of London.
The garden is home to 4,500 medicinal, edible, and useful plants, according to the Chelsea Physic Garden website.
Across the four acres of the garden, visitors can explore the historic glasshouse, learn about the plant collection, or relax.
The Chelsea Physic Garden hosts guided tours from April 1 to October 31, where guests can learn about the garden’s history and see some of the highlights from the living collection.
On Tripadvisor, The Chelsea Physic Garden has an overall rating of 4.5 out of 5 from more than 700 reviews.
One recent guest to the attraction said, “Tucked away in central Chelsea, this garden is beautiful.
“The gardens provide a moment of calm and a complete contrast to Chelsea itself.
