Thinking of buying a wood chipper, and this is currently my top choice since it can handle up to 100mm branches. I’ve got evergreen shrubs/Fir/Cypress trees all over the property that need regular pruning, and right now my garden is completely covered in clippings.

To recover from this nightmare, I’m considering investing in one of these. Seems like it would make cleanup much easier, plus I could reuse the wood chips for mulching or even give them away to neighbours.

Would love to hear if anyone has experience with this kind of chipper or if it’s worth the investment.

  1. I went a bit smaller, this Hyundai one from Irish Garage Equipment, but it’s savage. I think anything that doesn’t fit in this, is suitable for the stove anyway. I also bought a small handheld battery chainsaw which helps with small de-limbing and dealing with awkward knuckles while feeding it. One of the best purchases I’ve made for the garden. I cleared a load of scrub trees with it and it’s a monster.
It’s still small/mobile enough that I can lift it into boot/trailer if I need to deal with parents/friends places, but still powerful enough with 6.5hp

I bought an electric McAllister mulcher about 10 years ago and it’s still going strong
It says 45mm max diameter but I have squeezed much bigger through it, it automatically goes into reverse when something gets stuck.
Not as powerful as what you are looking at but it’s at a fraction of the cost.

Bought a cobra 650, right job, handles up to 3″ but as someone else said anything bigger is good for the stove, the chip is savage for the beds then

I recently bought the Piranha GSC1500E, it’s similar to this one but i can’t tow it behind the mower. It’s brilliant. Loads of power and easy to use. Am very happy with it and would recommend.
