Lime Garden are back today with their version of New Order’s “Age of Consent”, the track was recorded as part of a special live session at Abbey Road Studios. The recordings sees the band rework a selection of songs from their forthcoming album Maybe Not Tonight, alongside their take on the New Order classic, which they debuted live at their headline show at YES in Manchester earlier this month.
Chloe Howard talks about the sessions:
“Recording at Abbey Road was definitely a bucket list moment, the stuff we joked about since starting the band. We chose to cover Age of Consent as New Order were a major influence on the feel of our new album. We love how they meld guitars and synths to create an ‘alternative dance music’ sound. Gillian Gilbert in particular is a huge inspiration in terms if her songwriting and those electronic melodies.”
The cover is accompanied by a recording of the band’s latest single “Downtown Lover”, released last week. The track followed recent singles “Maybe Not Tonight”, “23” and “All Bad Parts”, further revealing the emotional landscape of the band’s forthcoming LP.
“The album is about a night out, from start to finish,” Howard explains. “As the night progresses, you’re having a great time, until your ex walks in with someone else. You hate the way you look but rather than going home, you press the big red button and get even more drunk. Eventually, you take yourself home full of melancholy, chaos and anger.”
