My uncle gave me this plant and I went to repot it and I have no idea what it is or the best way to take care of it. Also these little things are around in the dirt. Any information would be very appreciated!!

Edit: he gave it to me 3 years ago and it has done absolutely nothing. It grows and then dies off at the same place over and over

Is that pregnant onion? The leaves look like it and it has bumps on the bulb which I think are babies that have not opened or whatever the word for it. The pregnant onion has baby onions that exact way. If you do figure out it’s a pregnant onion I would love a baby onion. I had one in college and have never seen one since then. I don’t think they are edible.
There is another bulb that kinda looks like that,it’s called a neighbor plant, not sure what the real name is, but they are very hard to find and usually can only come from a neighbor, and the leaves are 6-8 ft long most of the time. I had a lot at my home I moved from several years ago and I only brought two baby bulb with me and so they are still very small. The bulbs need to be planted a little deep because they get very large, over 6”, I have so many I left behind, but we sold our house in one day and moved out pretty quick. They have flowers that look kinda like an Amarillo bulb and can have as many as 6 flowers on one stem at a time. Good Luck I hope you find the exact type of bulb. I’ll try to find the onion and the other bulb names for you.

That is the gnarliest pregnant onion I’ve seen. Very well may pop back to life with some gentle watering. They have a long elegant flower and continually produce pups.

    Yay! Another pregnant onion!

They go dormant in summer which is why it might have been “dying off” — very slow growers, be careful not to water too much

    For anyone wondering

Not a true onion, part of the Asparagaceae family. Alliums (onions) are in the family Amaryllidaceae. Both ate part of the order Asparagales. And they are both monocots.

Sorry, I’m really trying to learn the botanical names for things so I like to dive into this stuff
