Lawn has more weeds than grass. My neighbor's lawns on all sides look much nicer. I don't pay for professional lawn care (we have a teenager) but I am willing to treat it to try to get rid of some weeds and get some grass. I've tried weed and feed and it did basically nothing. I think it may have made the weeds more angry.

    1. Do you know what kind of grass you have? If yes good and it no then…
    2. Visit your local Agricultural Extension office:

    https://www.clemson.edu/extension/

They can help you ID your grass and weeds if you take samples or close up photos.

    3. Do you have irrigation (very helpful in getting grass to survive our summers!

Finally ask your neighbors what type of grass they have and if they do anything special?

Best first step is to water and mow regularly and bag clippings if you can to limit weed spread

    Be ready for a multi-year battle…

    Well a couple of things.

You mention weed and feed. Did you apply it after you spot treated some of the weeds? If so, you shouldn’t do that. If you used weed killer you need to wait about 4 weeks before seeding with any good effects.

Have you been mowing the weeds without treating them? If so, have you been bagging your clippings? If not, you are helping the weeds spread.

I’d recommend treating all weeds with a spot treatment. Then after about 2-3 days, give it a cut. Apply lawn food fertilizer (or something similar) the following day.

Begin mowing 2x a week in the mulching setting as grass clippings are nutrients for your grass. Water 3-5x weekly for about 30 min per zone.

This is the broadest advice I can give without knowing details like grass type, area, etc. The advice I gave above will pretty much work for any grass.

Lots of good tips, one more…avoid weed & feed combo products if possible. They take two good products and combing lesser versions of each in many circumstances.
