Hello everyone, I just picked up a John Deere Z920M from a dealer with 1,500 miles I paid 3,400 OTD. It has a 48” deck and was owned by the city and only used to mow cemetery’s. It was maintained by a John Deere tech and is in overall very nice condition. Came with a mulching kit. Oil and filter. Was this a good purchase?

Depends on the price… it is a commercial grade mower and with that many hours they probably stayed up on maintenance
Ask the dealer if there is a history of maintenance. Also the R’s are heavier duty than the M’s so keep that in mind
To answer your question 1500 hours on an 8 year old commercial mower I don’t think is to high
What did you pay? It’s impossible to answer the question without knowing the price.
Not for commercial. My 2022 V-ride 2 has 1450 hours. Runs like new with normal maintenance.
I mean in the forklift world that’s a baby.
Let me expand from other commenters that’s a commercial mower. And as such I have commercial forklifts that have over 13,000 hours that are 5-6 years old.
Commercial grade with average commercial maintenance done on it I usually consider reliably good for at least 2500 hours. I’ve seen plenty start to go around/after that age. Ive also seen many run over 4000.
This applies to pretty much all power equipment like this with air cooled engines.
Mowing cemeteries is possibly the easiest hours a person can put on a mower, and most municipalities are really good about maintaining equipment.
My only worry would be the engine. Those have a known issue of dropping valves, which wrecks the engine. The good news is those engines are everywhere, but if I was swapping to a new one I’d probably swap it to a vanguard. I’ve never had many problems with kawasaki’s, but I’ve known a lot of people with problems and worked on a few of them for people. I have only had one kawi fail on my personal equipment, the plastic camshaft snapped, the replacement was a metal one and has lasted ever since.
TIL mowers have an odometer
