Just wanted to share my excitement about this slightly absurd piece of equipment.

Thought the mix of engineering and nature application might resonate here.

I'm working on a conservation project building 500 nesting cavities from salvaged logs for locally endangered bird species, and finally managed to pick up the used core drill setup needed for it.

Just to avoid confusion – this was filmed at the carpenter’s shop where I picked it up and tested it.
Now the challenge is figuring out how to squeeze this setup into my tiny garage… after finally clearing out all the stuff I keep telling my wife would definitely be useful one day.

Seems like you could make a lot of different sized hollow cylinders if you have various sized bits.

Oh hell yeah, this is my tiny slice of Venn diagram! That’s fantastic, any plans to sell birdhouses after the initial conversation batch?

Which bird species are you helping? Very cool bit and project

Absurd is an appropriate word. As a carpenter I kind of hate it? As a fan of the absurd I love it.

I love trying to find the best way complete a niche task. I’m having a hard time thinking of a better solution than this so good job.

Usually those core drill machines have a water tank hooked up to them to cool and lubricate the bit. Of course they are almost always used to core through concrete. Not tree trunks. This is neat!

    Sacrilege!!!

No tool is absurd. They all deserve a warm home in my shop.

Wow! I bet that kicks **hard** if it ever binds up.
