May is set to be a great month for flower enthusiasts with two beautiful gardens in New Hampshire and Maine opening up after a long winter.

The Home and Garden Television network named what they think is the best garden in every state in the United States. According to the list, released in August 2025, Fuller Gardens in New Hampshire and the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens are “absolutely worth visiting.”

Here’s what to know.

Fuller Gardens — North Hampton, New Hampshire

HGTV highlighted Fuller Gardens in North Hampton, New Hampshire, for its “stunning” horticultural variety.

“These gardens were originally designed for a governor’s estate,” HGTV said. “The rose garden’s geometric precision offers a stunning contrast to the wild Atlantic beyond, while the Japanese garden provides a contemplative space amid coastal energy.”

Currently closed at the time of writing, Fuller Gardens will be open from May 12 through Oct. 15 on an annual basis, according to the gardens’ website. Its operating hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET with last admittance at 5 p.m.

“The formal rose gardens designed in the Colonial Revival style were commissioned during the late 1920s by Massachusetts Governor Alvan T. Fuller and designed by the Olmstead Firm as an ornament to his summer estate,” the website said. “The meticulously maintained rose gardens with hundreds of varieties begin their season long bloom cycle in late June and continue through October.”

Fuller Gardens is located at 10 Willow Ave. in North Hampton, New Hampshire.

HGTV picked Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay, Maine, because of its notable size and family-friendly appeal.

“New England’s largest botanical garden spans 295 acres where forest meets shoreline,” HGTV said. “The children’s garden features a storybook village complete with fairy houses, while the Meditation Garden offers contemplative views across a tidal river.”

The garden also features sculptures like giant troll statues and a stainless steel kinetic structure known as the “Wind Orchid.”

Closed now, the gardens will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET May 1 through Oct. 19, according to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens website. Visitors cannot be admitted past 4 p.m.

You can find the gardens at 105 Botanical Gardens Dr. in Boothbay, Maine.
