never learned the name of the plant, but it didn't drop it's leaves during the fall. It is also half dead and this might be it dying more.. but there is more growth at the base between the two branches of the leaves so maybe it is just getting ready for new ones.

From a small distance with the light refracting the brown also looks like a dirty gold. Which adds to the look.
