Gardening enthusiasts are being alerted to a deal that allows them to purchase an olive tree for less than £10. The Thompson and Morgan Standard Olive Tree, which is priced at £34.99 at full price on Yimbly (a shopping platform owned by YorkshireLive’s parent company, Reach PLC), currently has a discount of £8, reducing the price to £26.99.

However, there’s a method to further reduce the cost. This comes courtesy of the money-saving website TopCashback, where new members who register here can enjoy a £15 cashback sign-up bonus when they spend £15 or more at a participating retailer.

This means that for new TopCashback members and all Yimbly customers, whether new or returning, the plant can be obtained for £9.63 once cashback is taken into account. Yimbly states that the 18cm potted plant is both slow-growing and self-fertile.

Olive trees are evergreen, meaning they retain their leaves and maintain an attractive appearance throughout the year. Although typically associated with the Mediterranean, they can actually thrive in the UK. Yimbly provides the dimensions as Height: 150cm (59″). Spread: 50cm (20″), and the plant is supplied with an 80cm stem, reports the Mirror.

They are best situated in areas with abundant sunlight. The single review posted on Yimbly so far stated: “Nice healthy plants.”

No drawbacks have been highlighted, although it’s worth noting that whilst olives are robust, they can be harmed by severe frosts and may benefit from relocation to a frost-free area during particularly cold periods. This is why keeping them in pots is often a wise choice.

Gardening enthusiasts may also wish to explore Gardening Express, where the 100cm Olea Europa – Patio Olive Tree retails at £39.99. A larger 160cm specimen commands a slightly higher price of £79.99.

Amazon also stocks Olea Europaea – Olive Trees, with the 100cm variety available for £27.95. This arrives in a 21cm pot and boasts an average customer rating of 4.4 stars out of 5. Regarding that Amazon offering, one purchaser said: “I ordered two trees and they both arrived in excellent condition. I’m very pleased with the quality of the trees.

“They have strong and shiny leaves with budding flowers. The trees are beautifully shaped and are around 100 cm high. I would strongly recommend purchasing from this seller!”

Another customer added: “I am so happy with the two trees received today. They were well packaged and exactly what I was hoping for! I highly recommend using this supplier!”

Despite the praise, the occasional criticism was noted, with one customer saying: “After a total messed up communication on dispatch and delivery date they arrived in fair condition, now repotted.”
