  1. 👋🏻 Fionuala I have had a ‘Cream Veranda’ floribunda for 5 years but in a 12” pot for 3 years it is so healthy and is prolific with small roses in Spring and Fall. It has a light satisfying aroma. I am thinking about bumping it up to a larger pot this year. It loves sun for 8 hours. I pruned and fed it with rose tone three weeks ago and already budding with leaves. She is a sweetheart of a rose. What do you think about planting my (ETA Soon) ‘Edith Darling’ in a 21” pot? NW Oregon 8b.

  2. I've planted a Zephrine Durohin in a terra cotta container (as big as a bus). So far so good. Abby normally huge container from a friend selling an old hot springs resort. I could not turn down the container! I filled the bottom half of pot with plastic milk containers before filling up with soil!

  3. Roses in containers are one of my favorite topics, so I was excited to watch your latest video. A little disappointed in the camerawork because we could hardly see the pots you recommended or the roses. Maybe next time. 🙂 I have a Roald Dahl in a container and it's my favorite. I also have Desdemona on the way for another container. Happy to hear I'm on the right track. ☺

  4. Never tried a rose in a container. May have to try it this summer. More sun since we took down an old tree.

  5. Great timing on roses for containers video! I have my first David Austin roses (Molineux and charles Darwin) on the way. Still searching for proper containers to house them.

  6. I have had a minature rose Rockwall Sesquicentenniael for 2 years in a 24 inch pottery pot and it's doing well. Live in 9b outside of Houston TX and it even came thru several freezes. I also have a tree rose in a large pot called Nitty Gritty Pink Rose but I think it is also a minature they grated to make a tree rose as the flowers are small but very prolific for 2 years now. Doing well. I bought a Lady Banks rose last year on discount and haven't planted it in the ground yet, still in it's nursery pot as I plan on increasing my bed and putting a trellis that I still have to put together. I want an Eden rose also for it. Always fun to plan but not so much the work. Would love to plant more in pots. 😝 😂

  7. Agree with you Fionuala…being outdoors is wonderful especially when in a garden! This was a very informative video growing roses in a container. Always learn from your videos. Thank you! 🙂

  8. My favorite rose in a container is Life of the Party. The blooms are beautiful and it smells wonderful! It takes the Texas heat in stride, and it bloomed from April until right after New Year's Day.

  9. Well I start my bareroot roses or small roses in containers then plant them in the ground a year or so later.

  10. I have been growing several roses in containers for 5 years. English Miss, and Violet’s Pride have worked really well.

  11. Good Morning, I live in Sugarland, Texas and I bought 3 heirloom roses and planted them 3 years ago. They have not done much and are in good soil and I feed them. I even put compost around them a couple times a year. They just don’t grow much, look stunted maybe. I was wondering if I need to put root stimulator on them? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks Tishe

  12. Stumbled on to your YouTube video/channel today and enjoyed your video very much (subscribed). I live in the high mountains of Colorado and have a number of David Austin roses – which was probably incredibly foolish for our climate – though they are hardy to zone 4, they need so much water and it takes forever for the soil to warm up here. So last year, I dug a few up and put them in pots and they did MUCH better and I am overwintering them in the garage. As a result, I decided to order a few for my back deck to enjoy them there (and their fragrance) and will overwinter them in their pots. I ordered two Proven Winner roses because they blooms so much longer and more often. That was the one thing you didn’t talk about in your. Video – the blooming window of the roses you said would be good in pots. Whatever lives in a pot on my back deck needs to bloom for a while – or several flushes -because we have such a short growing season anyway. Will be watching more of your videos! Thank you.

  13. Thanks for your video! I’m in Calgary Alberta. Half an hour from the mountains so I also do the pots & garage for winter. They all survive being cut down to 10 inches & grow back to 3-5 feet depending on variety. There are lots of hardy roses for the zone 3-4 climate but I love the fancier ones. I have about a dozen so some need to be sacrificed when I find something new. Added Moonlight in Paris, Sweet Mademoiselle & Scentuous last year – fabulous!
Neighbours love them on the driveway.

  14. Hi Finouala, like others, I never considered growing a rose in a container! If you do another rose video, will tell us what you like to feed your roses and what kind of feeding schedule you use?

  15. I live in Indonesia, I'm currently growing many roses like Bishop Castle, Jerry jenning, Rainy Blue, dolcetto, Claire Austin, Marie Therese, Kiss me Kate, Marielle jourdan, Sophie rochas, Blue moonstone, Holiday Island peony, the prince, tatami room, My Rose™, Queen of Sweden, I grow them in tall 30cm pot, they grow healthily and have lots of bloom, we got plenty of sun in our country, maybe that's why they have healthy growth

  16. I have 12 roses in containers, one Elizabeth queen, two eden, one intrigue, two heirloom is a purple rose, one double delight, and another’s, they grow big and have a beautiful roses. I have 60 more in a ground and they are bigger and beautiful too.

  17. Most people that grow roses in containers in apartment style living such as on a patio or balcony are also limited in direct sunlight. So aside from being compact, I think the biggest attribute to look for in a container rose is partial shade tolerant. Angel Face is the perfect container rose, it's healthy, compact, continually blooming, intensely fragrant and partial shade tolerant. My poor Angelface rose only gets 2-3 hours of direct sunlight on a north facing patio sandwiched between a carport and a 3 store building above that unfortunately blocks sunlight and has been thriving that way for years. The key is completely changing the soil in the pot yearly, feeding regularly and only doing 1 deep watering a week to prevent root rot. I love you're spirit by the way and you are the true star of your Garden Fionuala <3
