After more than a year sitting vacant, Molbak’s Garden + Home’s former site in downtown Woodinville is moving toward a new chapter.
The garden center closed in January 2024 after 67 years in business. While some earlier redevelopment ideas, such as the proposed Green Phoenix Collaborative, never came to fruition, a new plan marks significant progress for the site.
Last week, the Woodinville City Council approved a development application from Green Partners that will transform the empty property into a mixed-use destination. Plans include about 1,300 housing units; a potential 200-room hotel; and 89,000 square feet of retail, dining, and office space.
City leaders say the new development will incorporate elements inspired by Molbak’s legacy.
“One of the parts of this development that I was personally very excited about was the opportunity for a covered public market using one of the existing warehouses from Molbak’s that was still on the site,” Mayor Sarah Arndt was quoted as saying in a recent KOMO article.
Plans also include a public splash pad and new streets to improve connectivity. The city council approved a 10-year agreement with the developer. According to KOMO, the initial stages of work are expected to be completed within the next 18 months. The entire project will require a total of five to seven phases.
