  1. decaying chives release sulfur compounds into the soil. As members of the Allium family, they concentrate sulfur that acts as a natural fungicide and nutrient booster for neighboring plants.

  2. Lovely carrots!!! Can't wait to see your garden in full swing. What was the "green material that you put with the leaves in the bottom of the pea/bean trench? I built a mini greenhouse with your dimensions from your video – I already have some things coming up and it's only been 5 days. I just hope the plants don't get leggy. I'm planting them anyway if they do! Blessings

  3. We are about a month and a half out from planting out our tomatoes yet. Zone 7b. I did not know about putting leaves and green matter under peas and beans. The peas are planted already, but will try that under beans later. Thank you for sharing your garden wisdom. 😊

  4. Carrot greens are actually very tasty to cook up; pluck off the tender carrot ferns from the stems, chop them a bit and sauté them in butter with whatever seasoning you might like. I keep picking the carrot greens throughout the growing season since they get rather large and that lets more air in around the tomatoes or adjacent plantings.

  5. We used to do trench composting mostly of kitchen scraps. Had to stop because a huge infestation of mole crickets. In our garden they decapitate tomato, eggplants and pepper seedlings. Last season it was a nightmare. We ended up having to flush them out one by one. There were days of catching more than fifty. We don’t have an infestation now but since this is their reproduction season, the remaining ones are more active. I catch one or two each day after locating them by their mating call. Worst pest! I live in Central Florida too. Thank you!
