this are is full of weeds. I have pulled most of them but they keep coming back. also the grass area is filled with weeds and roots and stumps. this is a rental so not looking for solutions that are too expensive.
Can try solarise the area with a black or see through tarp for a couple of months to kill them all off, or you can put down a layer of carboard and mulch on top and leave it for a while should kill off a lot of the weeds.

How long are you planning to be there? Because anything meaningful will take time from this base, plus as a rental you can’t do anything too permanent. But, for a relatively quick fix you could:
– go on freecycle and try to source some big plastic pots or long tubs
– find somewhere local that offers free mulch (sometimes waste transfer stations or recycling centres will do it, or community gardens)
– dig the f*ck out of those beds, then plant some native violet, spaced out all over and then mulch well
– in the big pots or tubs, plant some bamboo (don’t plant in the ground) and place along the fences to give yourself some cover
– both of these are pretty fast growing so you could a get much greener feel to the yard sooner
– nurture the rose, the geranium and the dear cactus
– keep weeding and mulching
– I dunno about the lawn sorry, not my thing
– use the table as a stage of small pots of different plants. Doesn’t need to happen all at once. Buy things here and there – school fetes, markets, all sorts of places sell little things. Just keep adding to it
