My organic garlic did better than seed garlic and was cheaper
I planted German butter potatoes from the grocery store that had chits in my pantry last year & had a great harvest. I used some random grocery store sweet potatoes to get slips. It took a lot longer than I thought it should, but I assumed it was due to āgrowth inhibitorsā but I planted 9 slips and got over 25 pounds of sweet potatoes. This year, Iām going to try sweet potatoes from the farmers market & see if I get slips faster than 6-8 weeksš .
Gardening is a lot like golf. There are all these ārulesā but no one really has a perfect score, so it all boils down to doing whatever works to get the ball in the hole.
Donāt let people get under your skin! I used to work for a potato farm. The non-organic potatoes are sprayed but they still will sprout just not as well nor as regularly as seed potatoes. The organic are not sprayed. Personally, I donāt touch the nonorganic potatoes from the store because I used to keep track of all the chemicals that are on them – yuck! Enjoy your experiments. Wish it was warm enough to plant up here in central Wisconsin but we still have at least a month before our cool weather crops can be put out. However, I am enjoying planting hundreds of seeds.
We are 9b here in norcal too! Itās crazy spring !
Ive only used potatoes from the store. So did my grandmother.
I just did my strawberry tower with Skylar, she loves it!
That mustard is a trap crop!
I have a birdify too, it awesome!!!!
I wanna do a potato tower!!!
Im trying to figure out how to do 2 figs.
š¤£š¤£Sorry I'm laughing, Chad!!! I absolutely LOVE your facial expressions when you talk about haters. Haters are just jealous. Keep on doing what you're doing…you have thousands of us out here who love you and learn from you. Thank you for being you, thank you for showing us your garden and yard even when it's not perfect. You're awesome!!!
Are you going to plant ocra?
ššššš Go get'um Chad!!!! There is something that is terribly wrong in folks lives where they need to think they are superior. Can't wait to see the hater video. BTW….this is my second year really trying to produce food. Store bought garlic, onions, tomatoes and POTATOES do great for me. I did almost give up on my potatoes. I planted them too early then we had snow 3 times and freezing temps for 5 days at a time. About 4 – 5 weeks later, guess what is sprouting???? My STORE BOUGHT POTATOES!!!
While you CAN grow from grocery store veggies, Irish potatoes from grocery store I have recently learned shouldnāt be used. I have watched wood prairie farm interviews on Jillās and Guten gardenās channels. Using food grade potatoes are less regulated for disease. The bacteria/viruses could possibly infect your oil and ruin future crops. (Another plug for plant rotations?)
And yes, I had pantry potatoes in my potato bed last year, too.
Always a learning experience.
HATER MATERIAL!!!! Look at those garlic pretending to be something special! Itās cool, mine look small now, but wait till they grow up! Even my Hail Mary emergency garlic will mop the floor with the likes of you, Angela, Doug, and Deeš! Already opened up a can of whoop * and just waiting to serve you all up a plate! Luv ya bro! #TEAMAIRMANFORTHEWIN
Chad, you have me laughing so hard calling out all the haters! From what I've seen and understand about store bought potatoes is that they are not guaranteed to not harbor disease and the growing conditions are not guaranteed to be organic, so growing them in the home garden is discouraged. That being said, I planted some of my pantry potatoes in grow bags and they are growing well so far. I say if they have sprouted in the pantry, the "growth inhibitors" people are so fanatic about obviously didn't work.
Your tree may be needing a bigger pot. Roots may be chocked out.
Lol. I too have some mystery peppers. Whatever it will be a surprise. š . Have a tray of I dont know plants, again I will have a surprise. Fun of gardening
Hay Chad, I don't know if you know this or not, the hummingbird moth feeds on the moonflowers heavily, the caterpillar stage of this moth is what we call the tomatoes horn worm. Just letting ya know.
Id like your moth ball water recipe, please!!!
Where is your location? Im zone 6b. Just got my indoor seeds going.
Omg it's unbelievable how much money ppl waste on potato seeds I grow potatoes from potato peels bought from store lol
My experience with store bought potatoes is that everytime I did it i had the Colorado potato beetle and when I used certified seed potatoes from a farm store I didn't. I don't know what that is but I have since then just got the seed potatoes.
I saw on Greenlove she uses 72% alcohol on aphids
She says spray on one to see if plant will thrive. Kill all aphids
Your just excited! Itās a wonderful feeling
So I had a eggplant that was so prolific. I think it was a hybrid, but it was smaller eggplant and one tree I was like a Christmas tree. I got like 25 eggplants I could you not and I was eating them giving them to the neighbors, my daughter-in-lawās everybody and all my friends just loved him well that plant of course didnāt survive the winter so I cut it down and let the roots decompose well I come to go and look at it and itās thrown again, but Iāve already planted some eggplant so letās hope I get some more. It was Man. It was beautiful. š
Have you used the mothball water in prior years or is this something you are trying this year? I agree with the bug comment…I lose my zucchini squash plants each year even with companion planting. š
The demonic moth is why I stopped growing squash or zucchini… but may revisit the idea now with mothball water… loved your description of the beast…
That overwintered pepper plant in the middle that you think is dead (26:37) but has all the green stems is still alive, I believe. Sometimes they just take a long time to start that next round of leaves.
To me gardening is something to be enjoying, it isn't that serious. Have fun! Experiment!
If you need more š plants, you can cut off and root a sucker. It will grow and produce too. That's only if you, like a lot of us, cut some of those suckers off. Nice garden tour.š
watching from zone 3, there's a foot of snow in my back yard with buried poopsicles from the 40 below of january… can i come over?
Hey I was wondering im growing some chillis and I was wondering if coffee grounds would be a good mix to put in with my soil to help them grow
