Yesterday I planted 3 David Austin roses, an apricot called Roald Dahl. Then I put in a Japanese maple with orange bark and another contorted one thatβs considered a treasure in Japan. Daffodils and hellebores are blooming here in 8a Greenville SC, but itβs a little early to put out my seedlings of scabious, snapdragons, and strawflowers. Busy time. I donβt know the names of most of my weeds because I donβt 0:53 want to spend time on them.
Great video ππ I do a lot of container gardening due to Armadillos..they love to root around my plants and flowers πΊ.. I am in Orlando Florida so we have an amazing garden time.. I started in February so I am enjoying lots of colorful flowers..Thanks for sharing ππ
Great video π looking forward to seeing everything come together. It will be beautiful
Itβs going to be a Gorgeous Garden!!! Have a Blessed Day!!β€οΈβ€οΈ
I have a question about Alyssun I have a place for it just was curious if I sow it in my garden or plant it in a container
I couldnβt figure out if I was growing Swiss chard or a weed and that weed ended up almost 3 ft tall ππ I love that I was so proud of my weed for weeks and then found out it was a weed. π«£ I have some awful weeds that have tubers and rhizomes deep in the ground. Such a pain. Oh and those awful sand spurs.
Your garden is going to be stunning π€© π±πΈ
Love it all, Amanda!! It IS hard work. My buttocks are sore from bending over and pulling weeds. "My vision for my garden doesn't match my budget." THAT is my issue too. LOL! So excited for your beautiful garden with home grown plants by you! I need to get more into seed starting. I tried with veggies a few years ago but got discouraged with it and couldn't handle all the gnats I got inside. But I do use seed planting in my Vegepod and Gardenstalk now. Just need to figure out how to do it successfully with annuals. You have inspired me! And btw, can I come see your garden in person sometime? My bonus daughter and son-in-law and grandson live in Woodbridge area. Are you close? Can I come "visit" or even just drive by when we are over there this year? Not to stalk you — just to admire your garden in person — even from a distance. I'm having to redo a lot of my beds due to our big deck cover falling over into my biggest beds around the pool. I even asked hubby if we could fill in the pool so I can have more growing space for trees and more flowers and shrubs. He couldn't even fathom doing that.

I also get confused if something is a weed or new plant coming back from dormancy then pull it out once itβs confirmed π

Love Persian shield! Trying to propagate a couple now.
The for the information and I will try both
Your garden is looking full already! Canβt wait to see it in a few months π
Looks lovely,so much hard work by the pay off is great
Hi Amanda this is your garden friend over here in northeast Indiana zone 6. Everything looks beautiful, can't wait for your summer flower show this year! A lot of the plants you have grown and are planting I also am either growing, bought, or was gifted and I love it. I either winter sow or direct sow. My perennials come back every year using some of your tips and methods. Sometimes I wish I could start indoors then I say NOPE, I know me, and I don't have the patience nor the room. What kind of light does the garden bed you planted today get. Like you I love Persian shield and would like to incorporate it in a couple of beds. Mind grew in morning sun and afternoon shade, but then it also got powdery mildew really bad, what's your secret or any growing tips! Did you start them from seed?

Your garden is looking great! Have you considered painting that downspout brown where it lies on the ground? That would make it disappear.

The purple is so pretty
My word, Amanda, you had me huffing and puffing right along with you! How you do all that physical labor and talk at the same time is a mystery to me! This section of your garden is going to be out of this world! And the Persian shield will add so much drama and beauty! Fantastic and gorgeous in every way! πππ Linda
New viewer, East Texas area near Louisiana zone 8b. Not many gardeners on YouTube for my climate so I enjoy when you mention which plants do well and in which direction of sun their planting site is. I find it very helpful. Coleus last until a freeze in my area, my pansies still look great too.
Happy gardenning 2024β€β€β€

You really don't need to fertilizer your perennials… They will grow bigger yes, but also flop over, and die sooner. You're already fertilizing anyway with the wood chips. If you know about the Chelsea chop, well, you only need it because of fertilizing or a soil already too rich for some perennials. A lot of perennials prefer lean soils, which is why nowadays landscape gardeners advise against it, and are trying new ways of planting. One solution, is to plant your big perennials first, and then cover the rest with well behaved stuff like carex that will fill the gap and eliminate the need for wood chips and weeding. Coz even if you don't fertilizer, wood chips will make the soil too rich for many perennials such as eryngium, calamintha, nepeta, rudbeckia, echinacea, echinops, and so on. Some will be fine, especially wet soil perennials like veronicastrum, thalictrum and eupatorium. But dry soil perennials, or prairie perennials, not so much…
