BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – Lost River Cave will soon have a new place for families to relax, thanks to a local Boy Scout’s Eagle Scout project.
Gavin King, a member of Troop 705, is building a hammock garden at Lost River Cave Park in collaboration with BGMU and the park.
“Me and my dad, we love going camping and we love camping down on hammocks,” King said.
King, a Bowling Green native, has spent the last 12 years as a Boy Scout. Earning the rank of Eagle Scout is the highest honor in scouting and requires completing a project that benefits the community.
“A lot of people come down to Lost River because it’s local. So just a chance for people to come just hang out in nature and like God’s creation, just to to see all of it and just chill and talk with each other,” King said. “This is obviously the culmination of me being a Tiger Scout all the way up to an Eagle Scout. And I’ve been in it for like 12 years. It’s been it’s been a lot. So this is kind of the peak of what it is.”
King said the project is about helping the community.
“We get to we get to show what we’re all about and just really help out the community and just show show others our love and what we want to do for them. That’s what scouting is all about,” he said.
Lost River Cave CEO Justin Jennings, an Eagle Scout himself, said supporting scout projects is something the park is always happy to do.
“The Boy Scouts of America is a great program. We enjoy having them out on the park. We love, seeing them camp and do different things here. So anytime we can help out the Boy Scouts, we want to,” Jennings said. “Anytime we can add something to the park, we, We try to do everything we can to get people just out in nature, deep, just slow down, spend time in nature and improve your quality of life. I think this is going to be a great asset for achieving that goal.”
The hammock garden will be available to the community to use in two weeks.
