People say that you should plant tomatoes in well draining loose soil with plenty of nutrients and sunshine.
Well, long story short, I didn't plant this. It planted itself. In my play system, in a little corner where the ground is very hard and dry. Not sure how it is still alive but I did add more water. I think one saving grace is that the dirt in my play system is healthy. I was pulling out weeds the other day and I encounter sooooo many earthworms. Big fat ones too. So it must be sustaining life just fine.
It would be really funny if this little guy managed to survive and produce fruit but I don't have much hope.

I love tomato volunteers! They usually are strong plants and will produce. As long as it gets sun and water you will probably get tomatoes!
I had a gajillion volunteers sprout up last year from topping off rows with compost. I ended up saving seeds from my volunteer plants so Im expecting record acorn squash and honey dew melons this year
tomatoes don’t give a fuuuuuck
I have sooo many tomato volunteers in my herb garden from compost! I want to transplant them to the dirt and see how they do.
They say that to get good yields and reduce the chance of disease long term.
Not because they won’t grow otherwise.
