Hi everybody,

Its been a while since my last post. I chopped my Sanpedro/Peruvian, because the mother plant is rotting (I think) and has some kind of fungus (I think). Sorry, I'm kinda a noob when it comes to cacti 🤭 I adopted the cati from my brother who moved to another country

How can I make sure the babies aren't going to die from the fungus? For now I just let the mother die ☹️ I've tried to get rid of the fungus and is now 70% covered.

Last photo is the mother plant and the fuzzy stuff is fertilizer.

My guess (entirely based on where I live) is that it’s getting too much water.

I’d just pull it out of the pot, shake the roots out, let it dry out completely, plant in 50/50 soil/perlite

Grass growing in the pot makes me think it’s too moist

(I had exactly this happen to me when I put a big stand in the ground and watered it too much

I’m not convinced that the mother plant is rotting. Not sure what season you’re in or how long it’s looked that way. More info might change the interpretation of the problem and what to do.

Mother plant looks like it has previous damage e.g. sunburn that is healing as expected. The cut branch stump on the mother plant looks fine.

The second pic doesn’t look the best but the cuttings might be alright.

These things happen sometimes some cultivars are more susceptible than others.

I have a couple all from one cross that do this every winter but others around them never do and without fail they come through it fine. Every now and again I’ll clean it up and toss the nasty parts but good chance this plant will always struggle in some way in your environment.

Can add gypsum and sulfur on and around the cactus and it might help it some but not a cure. This plant just probably isn’t compatible with your climate and also the local fungi growing there.

Id also keep it away from others so it doesn’t spread and always clean and disinfect any tools used on this plant especially before touching/cutting another cactus with them.
