We have just cut down this ugly and messy bush combination. It had some kind of prickly shrub in the middle but was surrounded by the thin parts which was an invasive plant. I need advice about an economical way to remove the rest of it. Stump grinding is probably not an option due to pipes. Is there a way to rot the roots?

Nuke it from orbit – it’s the only way to be sure.

Sorry. Couldn’t help myself. A big consideration here is time. Have you got five years to use roundup and pruning and gradually get rid of it, or do you need it gone right now?

I saw the leaves and shape and recognised as the plant from hell with infinite lives from our last place, good luck, we even removed more that half the stump once after trying everything else and 2 months later it was bigger!

What pipes? A mini excavator could scrape it down to ground level at least.

Hire a stump grinder. It won’t damage underground pipes. Usually grind to just below ground level.
If your concerned get on the shovel to confirm the depth of your pipes.

This is what the circular saw blade on a whipper snipper is for. On top of that you need someone to work next to you spraying the little stumps with double strength herbicide as soon as you’ve cut it, within 30 seconds, to kill each one. Both of you wearing strong boots! The stump grinder is a safer but even more expensive option. Good luck.
