I got this free pile of wood chips from the local tree surgeon back in November but it has since transformed into a mushroom colony and even starting to look like compost at the bottom.
I'll now have to get fresh chips for my flower beds but wanted to ask has anyone used compost from wood chip and how to continue maintaining it?
It obviously isn't fully ready as the white fungus section is one solid clump but how long should I leave it? And should I cover it to prevent it getting too water logged?

I would spread it anyway and let it break down in the beds. There is no need to wait. Get the goodness and spread it around.
