I just processed a turkey i have been putting off for months and threw my back out doing so but I'm trying to figure out a way to fit it in my fridge. It's so damn huge it takes up 3/4 of a 27 gal tote. You every had a 'turkey thigh' at bush gardens? Well this bitches thigh is bigger. At least 60/65 lbs of bird after processing. Are there any foodsafe bags big enough out there to store it in the fridge in so rigor can pass through? Probably need to be at least the size of a medium moving box from home depot

    There are very large ziploc bags for blankets and sports equipment. Thats what we use.

    Wow, a post I can actually offer some advice on. I sell turkeys at a local farmers market for Thanksgiving.

    For next time, butcher birds at no more than 25-30 lbs, there isn’t a point in letting them get any bigger.

    You need to get the largest cooler from Wal-Mart with a latch on the front. You will need it again, it’s an investment worth making.

    Let your bird take an ice bath for 72 hrs. Before butchering

    You will without a doubt, need to quarter that bird. Cut a breast off and cook it. If it tastes dry, grind the breast.

    Separate the thigh and leg, and vacuum seal them. Hope this helps.

    You don’t need to keep that whole. I did a bird a year ago January, 45# hanging, and I cut it up into ~4# lumps, vacuum sealed them in standard bags, and threw them in the freezer.
