Long time pot plant haver, first time garden haver. what’s the best way to prune these gals and other bushy plants to get them looking their best as they grow?

The basic thing to remember with many natives is that in their natural environment they get eaten by animals and insects, bashed around by wind, waves or passing animals.

Because of this lots of natives try to get as big as they can before this happens. They have strong Apical dominance, they don’t branch well without a prune.

When the plants are small, a regular light pruning will give you a bushier plant so that when they are larger a once a year prune is all they need.

When I say light, two or 3 sets of leaves. With Westringia, you can pinch those out with your thumbnail. I’ll often use scissors or flower snips as well with the slightly tougher plants.
