The 24th Annual Northeastern Pennsylvania Home and Garden Show at Mohegan Arena was in full swing Saturday.

Hundreds of attendees visited more than 180 home improvement, outdoor living, and artisan vendors.

The event also features gardening and home improvement seminars, along with children’s activities.

Admission to the show is free, courtesy of Pella Windows and Doors.

“Fees (at home shows) were getting so high to get in that less and less people can come out and get ideas,” said Michael Anderson, general manager of sales at Pella Windows and Doors. “You’re seeing less local builders.”

“We’d rather see the local contractors do well, so anything we can do to help it grow is good for us,” he said.

Local specialists participating in the show offer services for foundation and basement repair, windows, doors, and siding replacement, landscapes and gardening, sheds and outdoor furniture, and more.

“Traffic has been good,” Anderson said, noting it has improved since COVID. “We’re seeing quite a bit of people coming out that are looking to build new houses. It’s nice to see the excitement in the community of things changing, things getting better and improving.”

Attendee Rose Hernandez came to browse home improvement vendors.

“There are a lot of great vendors out here,” Hernandez said. “If you’re looking for any type of home improvement, this is a good place to start for the springtime.”

Rose Hernandez attended with Lyric Hernandez, 10, who loves to garden.

Lyric tested her gardening knowledge at the Master Gardeners Penn State Extension Luzerne County table with volunteer John Karczewski.

Karczewski said the Master Gardeners Penn State Extension focuses on outreach, gardening education, tabling events, and school visitations. They hold gardening-related community events, from vegetable gardening tutorials, to seed distributions, to poison prevention seminars.

At the NEPA Home and Garden Show, the Penn State Extension offered two seminars Saturday on pollination practices and rain barrel usage. They will offer two more Sunday on essential spring gardening tasks and seed selection.

The NEPA Home and Garden Show ran from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. It is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
