happy spring Gary. thank you for sharing your knowledge and thoughts in such detail. from where to place raised beds to companion plants, this is so helpful to me. to your success! thanks too for the store reminder. tis the season. peace all
Hi Gary, I have an issue I’m not sure how to proceed. I took a potato that sprouted eyes and put it in a pot with potting mix. I did not think anything would happen because I have no clue really how to garden but also it was a store bought potato that was just getting old. Well now I have 10-12 inch stalks and I have no idea when I can put it outside. I’m in Southern Rhode Island, zone 7 (a I think). I keep telling myself that I’m ok if it dies because I didn’t think anything was going to happen anyway. But I really want it to survive. I was hilling it up in the pot I had it in but realized I needed a bigger pot or the potatoes were going to be small. I read they don’t like to be transplanted but I managed to keep it alive and it was tons of roots, it’s in a large container but I just don’t know when to put it outside. I’ve been keeping it in front of my sliding glass door and it gets opened a lot for my dog. Anyway, do you have any advice?
Are peas and onions good companion plants?
Great tips Gary! Thank you!!!l
I ordered 10yards of mixed top soil and compost. What got dumped is 1/5 rocks the size of a quarter and small twigs. I am shifting it and using the rock/twig as fill in the bottom of my 18inch tall beds.

I am mapping out an in ground bed…..my first in ground!! And not in the caged-in garden area!
Do you use treated lumber for beds now that it's safer? There is a real variety of views on the subject. It would be nice since they hold up so much longer and much cheaper than something like cedar. Thanks!
