Get ready to rumble, gardening-style, at Yard and Garden Palooza. There’s no better place to get inspired than our all-day gardening event on Saturday, April 18, in Fargo.
Whether you’re a seasoned green thumb or dreaming of your very first tomato harvest, this lively event is designed to get you growing with confidence. Expect a full day of learning, idea-sharing and practical tips you can take straight home to your own backyard.
Yard and Garden Palooza is presented every two years by North Dakota State University Cass County Extension Horticulture, and it’s one of the events I most enjoy organizing and emceeing, along with our Extension Master Gardeners.
We’re especially excited to welcome nationally known gardening speaker and author Charlie Nardozzi, whose approachable style and deep knowledge have helped gardeners across the country dig deeper and grow better.

Charlie, from Vermont, will present our keynote, “Foodscaping,” in which he’ll share insights to make our gardening more productive and more fun. Based on his book, Charlie will provide ways to integrate edible plants into the landscape to produce food without sacrificing beauty.
Charlie’s keynote will discuss the best vegetables, herbs and fruits, including some native and unusual types, while highlighting attractive varieties and how to plant them to enhance the beauty of our yards, plus producing something to eat.
Charlie and I will tag-team at the end of the day with a session, “Stump the Horticulturist,” where attendees can ask their toughest gardening questions, and together we’ll do our best to answer them.

One workshop during the event will highlight designing with annual flowers.

Throughout the all-day event, Yard and Garden Palooza attendees have their choices of breakout sessions including tomato growing tips, designing with annual flowers, new perennials for 2026, how to grow onions and garlic, tree care tips, new trees and shrubs, raised bed gardening, how to grow succulents, latest gardening trends, how to prune, home lawn fertilizing, gardening for bees, bonsai growing, ornamental grasses and more, presented by experienced local gardeners and NDSU specialists.
Lunch will be served, with plenty of time throughout the day to visit with fellow gardeners. A vendor display area will feature locally owned garden centers and informational booths.
A $40 registration fee includes the noon lunch and all the day’s activities and sessions. Preregistration is required, along with online payment.

I hope you’ll join me for this inspiring event. Please introduce yourself; I always enjoy meeting fellow gardeners. As I frequently say, “We’re all in this together. “
