Banana trees: sooo I need to start off by saying I am not a green thumb. 😂. Somehow I've managed to get this tree from a 2 ft stock( home Depot) a couple of years ago to this. It even had a bunch of small bananas which we didn't think would make it thru the recent Houston freeze so we cut. I know I know..still newbie. My question is all the stems all produced leaves and looks happy but the main one not so much. Any suggestions appreciated!

i’m no expert but i think the main stalk of the plant dies after fruiting, than grows shoots that fruit.

You can cut the main stem off at ground level since it had produced fruit.

Its difficult to harvest fruit here since it takes 3-4 months from flower to ripe fruit.

Thanks everyone. Just told hubby..will do today. Does it matter what we use to cut since it won’t grow back?

I would love to propogate as there are little ones like 3 inches growing in back. I took one small one maybe 2inches and it’s alreasy growing a new leaf in water. How long should I keep in water before transplant?

The stalk dies after producing bananas. More will grow
