I think over watering is the issue. the leaves that have turned dark and wrinkled are soft not dry and I watered a fair bit more than usual (I've had it for only a month). sat approximately 4 feet from a generally shady window that gets moderate sunlight. is there anything I can do to help it recover? I haven't taken care of plants before so I don't know what is useful or if anything I know is accurate.

Did you turn the heat off while you were away? That looks kinda like cold damage.
Edit: or was it completely flopped when you got home and these photos are from after you watered it?
