My melano recently put out its first cataphyll but now the next leaf is coming out of a petiolar sheath. That leaf hasn’t unfurled yet but I can already see that there’s a baby cataphyll wrapped up inside it, so the next leaf will back to the cataphyll stage (pic 2). Is it normal to go back and forth between petiolar sheaths and cataphylls for a while before it stays in the cataphyll stage?

I haven’t seen it on a melanochrysum before (since mine invariably die before they get to that point) but I’ve seen it on a variety of other philodendrons before. My caramel marble is doing it right now. I think it’ll eventually start sticking to cataphyl, though I will say that I’m surprised yours is doing petiole at that stage of maturity.

My pink princess has been doing that too

I’m not sure why. It’s very strange

Haven’t gotten my melano that size yet, but my composoportanum has done it.
